Poetry Workshop: Voice & Style

Poetry Workshop: Voice & Style In-Person

Join local author Ramon Presson for an engaging poetry workshop exploring the distinctive style of former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins. Known for his accessible, witty, and lighthearted verse, Collins made poetry fun again.  In this session, you'll learn how to apply the "Billy Collins method" to your writing - discovering how to blend humor, clarity, and personal voice in ways that elevate your poetic expression. Whether your subject matter is serious or playful, this workshop will help you refine your tone and style while making poetry more fun and approachable.

You'll learn:
  • how and where to mine for good ideas
  •  the 2-word source of all creativity (and it's not The Muse)
  • how to make writer's block someone else's problem
  • the way to start a poem that invites the reader in
  • how a poem is like the optometrist's Eye Chart
  • how to recognize where your poem "takes a turn"
  • how to land the plane (end your poem)
This workshop is for teens and adults. Please sign up.

*Ramon Presson was honored nationally early in his writing career during college with a First Place Award from The Academy of American Poets. His 2018 collection, Voice Lessons, received the Janice Keck Literary Award.

A licensed marriage and family therapist, ordained minister, newspaper columnist, and the author of a dozen nonfiction books, Presson's first love continues to be poetry. He has had the rare privilege to be mentored 1:1 by Stellasue Lee, a poet twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
